Author bio:
Thank you so much for visiting my author page and your interest in 'The Knowing Gene'. This is my debut novel and I have to say I'm humbled beyond words from the feedback I've received from readers. Although it took me many years to write due to suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 'The Knowing Gene' seems to have already developed a loyal following. Feedback has been universally positive with two comments in particular almost always made: 'Wow, that would make an awesome movie!' and 'When will the sequel be out?', usually followed immediately by 'I want it NOW!' Readers have quickly identified with the characters, plot, and subtext and have found the book very enjoyable, regardless of their age or gender. OK, so a couple small typos made it through... but the story is great! We'll get page 257 fixed soon! As for me, I grew up on a farm outside of Charlottesville, Virginia and currently reside in the mountains of North Carolina, although Newfoundland is having a very strong draw on me. Forced to leave the corporate world in 2003 after suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I turned my creative energy to writing. Although taking over four years, I was able to produce this first work as my physical and cognitive energy allowed. I'm very grateful to my dear friend Gail Westover at Thistlewood Publishing for starting her business and providing me an outlet for my creativity. I graduated from Virginia Tech, have two children, and wish I could find worthy backgammon opponents a little more often. The sequel to The Knowing Gene, 'From Under The Radar', will hopefully (health permitting) be available early 2011. Please visit The Knowing Gene's page on facebook.com and leave your comments. Comments on review sites are encouraged and greatly appreciated. A portion of the author proceeds from the sale of my books are donated to the CFIDS Association of America to help find a cure. To find out more about CFIDS visit their website at http://www.cfids.org/.

I write books and online materials for English language learners. These include original stories like Love by Design (Macmillan Readers) and Race Against Time, (Heinemann). I have also written simplified versions of classics including Henry James' Washington Square & Oscar Wilde's The Picture Of Dorian Gray. You can see a partial list of my books here. I was very pleased that two of my readers (an adaptation of The Secret Garden & an original story The Big Match) were singled out for 'their particular excellence' in Bamford & Day's Extensive Reading in the Second Language Classroom (Cambridge, 1998). The authors very kindly described me as being 'amongst the best writers of language learner materials in English.’ I have also written for Ming Pao Daily and IATEFL Voices. I was also the BBC World Service Teacher Blogger in August 09 and part of the December 09 Open Blog team. It was great fun and I'm looking forward to blogging again for them in the future. My websites feature in Tips for Teaching with Call (2008, Pearson/Longman). I live in Bristol with my wife, daughter and two cats. I'm lucky enough to teach in Bath, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Bristol is very special, too, even if it does rain occasionally!

Born right at the mid-twentieth century point in Atlanta, still a sleepy southern city at that time. My mother's bookcase was filled with classics and I read them all before I was twelve, and re-read many. Steinbeck, Faulkner, Hemmingway and the like. For most of my life I have always had an active book going, if not two or three. I wrote a lot of poetry as a teen, and then progressed to songs once I learned to play the piano and guitar. After a successful eight years writing computer programs and technical documentation I entered book retail, and stayed there for nearly twenty years. I read good books to know how to write, and read bad books on purpose to know how not to write. I wrote Sarasota Bay in 2003-4 on impulse and it was published locally with great success. It was then that I got serious and studied many books on the craft.

The Storyteller I am a part Maori, New Zealand born Australian. Storytelling is in my blood. As a child growing up in my hometown of Taumarunui, I remember sitting around the crowded table absorbing vivid tales spun by some of my mother’s thirteen brothers and sisters. I completed my apprenticeship, became a tradesman, fitter turner, machinist. Then, intent on adventures of my own I almost ran away to sea but just before setting sail I fell in love with a beautiful Australian woman whom I made my wife. We travelled the world together and have now lived the last twenty-eight years in Perth, Western Australia. We have an amazing son and daughter and I work with people in vocational training and career development. Relating and sharing stories of my life experiences to apprentices and col-leagues has reinforced my love of a good story. Finally the hunger inside has spurred me to put pen to paper and fulfill my life-long passion to write in order to share my stories, both real and imagined. My love of art, history, travel, exotic locations and the complexities of human behavior are all explored in this, my debut novel. I am now well underway on the next one. D.C. Baker

Author bio:
Daron Fraley was born in Powell, Wyoming, but doesn’t consider himself a cowboy. Living in France for a couple of years provided him the opportunity to hone his cooking skills and to become addicted to good food and chocolate. Apart from his loving family, teaching and writing are his two most favorite things in the world. A classic computer geek, he still likes to fish and camp, makes a mean apple or pumpkin pie from scratch, and once fixed a gas clothes dryer using photocopier parts. With all of his interests in music, art, the sciences, and religion (especially religion), he would have been quite comfortable living during the Renaissance. Having toured chilly castles while in France, he is glad he didn’t live during that time. “The Thorn” is his first novel. After ten total years in the wonderful state of Indiana, Daron, his wife Jennifer, and their six children once again live in the beautiful Rockies, close to friends and family in Wyoming and Utah.

Author bio:
If you need someone to challenge your well-established notions, Alex Modzelewski is your writer. A physician by training, traveler and rebel by temperament, Dr. Modzelewski practiced medicine in multiple countries of Europe, Africa and North America until he traded his scalpel for a pen in 2006. Since then, he uses his exotic experiences and unorthodox ideas as the raw materials for thrillers and adventure books, short stories and articles. Following "Sinners in Paradise" and "Woman on the Moon" novels, Demon of Darien is his third major work of fiction. Apart from his signature captivating action, an emphasis on independent thinking is the common thread running through his writings; the conventional notions—whether they concern maternal love and patriotism or drug dealing and prostitution— need to be stress-tested, he seems to believe. He lives in Hawaii now, writing, paddling the ocean and arguing his unusual ideas.

Bonjour. I’m Kat Jaske. Las Vegas resident––well more precisely Henderson, Nevada, which is right next door • Runner – Helped my crosscountry team win the 1990 Ohio state championship (5-K race). I’m even more proud of the next year when our team placed fourth, but I ran a personal best State Course time of a little over 19 and a half minutes. • Fencer – Yes, with swords, especially sabers. You know, the musketeer thing. Or Zorro. • Singer • Active in church • Love my black cat, Minnesota • Writer – Historical fiction, science fiction, fantasy, poems, articles, all sorts of items for students and parents Many of my ideas for writing or teaching come to me when I am running. Unfortunately, I can’t carry a journal with me, so I have to wait until I finish, walk in the door, and then grab a pencil and paper, or a computer, and put them down. I have always loved reading and writing, voraciously. Mom’s favorite story is about the time she had to punish me for something (which I am probably innocent of doing) by saying, “No reading. Do not go to your room. Sit here and watch TV.” I hated TV. Writing takes passion (a love of words in my opinion) and when you have that passion, it permeates everything. Word scrambles and other word games and puzzles and other thinking games are “cool”. I graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, N.C. in three and a half years with a double major in English and Psychology. After working two years and saving every penny I could, I headed to France and spent two years studying there. Then returned to the U.S. to work a couple years before attending UNLV where I finished my Masters of Education and teaching certificate. Now I spend time teaching my students the finer points of the French language and culture, and encouraging them to read and write.

I had always been a natural storyteller and voracious book reader. It had always been my wish to become an author, but life and family dictated that my job one was to provide for them as best I could. Then, quite recently, I sat in front of my computer and words literally came pouring out and many books where written in just about every genre. At first I used my writing mostly for self entertainment, until I discovered Smashwords, and here I am, a published author with a long list of many more to come. I live in Los Angeles, California, have been married for umpteen years, and have two children.
